Merry Christmas Everyone!
We came up for another working weekend this weekend. Although this weekend was a little more laid back than most normal working weekends. Last weekend we got a bunch of the viburnums in the ground. Sunday morning we took an inventory of our irrigation parts and then made a supply run to pick up additional items to get a temporary irrigation system set up for the plants.
More sprinklers
We got back and got right to laying out the irrigation system. I find it fastest to lay out the pipes and then drop all of the connections and sprinklers where they go and then go through and connect them. I started in the back corner of the property as that was the only fixed point and worked my way out from there. I opted to install the sprinklers behind the plants so any overspray would wind up on the yard with the new grass seed that we planted. I also opted to install the sprinklers with risers to make sure the water was overtop of the plants so that they all got watered. I figure this setup would be good for 1-2 years and by that time they should all be established and no longer needing sprinklers.
Oceana the plumber
Oceana helped me glue up the fittings until we worked our way around to the end. I left the last sprinkler head and riser off so that I could purge any junk (sand/dirt) out of the lines. We hooked up a garden hose on a timer to the other end and tested it out. Water flowed through the lines and came out the missing sprinkler. After a minute of letting the water flow I put the riser in place and watched all of the sprinklers start misting water over all of the plants. I adjusted a few sprinklers and we were in business.

Odds and ends
Back in the bathroom, I installed the cabinet door pull while Oceana installed the cover plates on the electrical switches and outlets. In the bedroom, we had a tall mirror leaning against the wall. I mounted some hanging hardware and hung it up. It looks much better that way. Also, we brought up a box spring and frame for the mattress we had here and got that all set up. Fast forward – this didn’t work out so well. Maybe this box spring doesn’t go with this mattress. But either way it made a crater in the middle of the bed that we both kept sliding down into. Not great sleep but oh well. We’ll definitely have to rework this for next weekend.
Cleaning up the place
Monday morning we cleaned up and started hauling more stuff off. Last weekend we took out the better part of a trailer full of junk. We did the same thing this weekend. We went through the shop and the house and loaded up anything that doesn’t need to be there. Little by little we’re making progress on getting the place cleaned up. After we loaded up the trailer, we called it a day and headed home.

Propane, anyone?
Anyone have any thoughts/recommendations for propane? Oceana would like a gas stove and we’re also discussing a tankless hot water heater. For both of those we’re looking at propane which would require having a tank set in the yard. If anyone has any info or recommendations on this process, we’re happy to listen.
Until next time
That’s all for this now and as always, thanks for following along. And Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas, Jake and Oceana! We have a propane tank in our back yard. We use propane for hot water, stovetop cooking, and firelogs. (Yes, firelogs are on TODAY — Christmas! This morning it was 41; now (at 2 PM) it’s in the 50’s. BRR!). We deal with Ridge Propane Gas in Avon Park (863-453-3959). We rent a 90-pound tank for a nominal annual fee and they refill whenever we need more. Hope this helps. See you soon for post-Christmas feast!
Merry Christmas to you guys too. Thanks for the info. I’d like to take a link at your setup when we come by for dinner.
Friends have a conductive stove top which they love because ” it acts like gas to control “. Might want to check that out.
Thanks Marilyn. I’ve heard good things about the induction cooktops. I’ve not had the chance to try one yet but I’m looking forward to trying one out sometime.
