Making sawdust
Last week most of the tools got set up in the shop and I was able to start making sawdust again. This week was more of the same. Unpacking boxes – organizing, and getting generally moved into the shop. I worked in the shop to build up some inventory for some products I sell online. I also got the CNC machine back online and had it cutting out parts. One of the products that I sell are kits for building an American flag cutting board. This is mostly done on the CNC machine to cut out the stars and then the maple (lighter colored wood) stars are inserted into the walnut (darker wood) pockets and then sanded flush.
Pipiomaka table
Once I had a little inventory built up, I got back to working on a custom coffee table design that I’ve been working on for over a year now. I’ve named it the pipiomaka table. I came up with the design and didn’t know if it was even possible to build. The major design element are the curved legs which are steam bent while still being attached to the table top. Very tricky to do. Here’s a little video clip of me bending the legs. To figure out the bending process, I tried and failed a bunch of times until I came up with the proper jigs to allow it to happen. I had just bent two sets of legs for a table when we decided to pack up and move. I’ve been itching to get it finished up and this week I was able to focus on it again. I got the rest of the build finalized and started applying the finish. It should be ready for it’s beauty shots (pictures) next week.

Shop staining
While I was working in the shop, Oceana was working on the second coat of white stain on the outside of the shop. She got nearly everything second coated. She’s a champ!
Clearing out the house
Inside the house we’re going through and decluttering and getting rid of unwanted stuff. Moving into a new house is fun enough, but moving into an unfinished house is even more fun! Items that would normally be out and accessible are packed into a box somewhere. It keeps life interesting. But we’ve got a plan for getting it all finalized. I’ve got some business stuff that I’ve been putting off that I need to get squared away over the next few week and then I’ll be back working on the house like normal.
Well that was quick
Shorter update this week but there will be more to come. As always, thanks for following along.
❤️ love the table and the name! Watching the CNC machine make the stars was awesome too. I showed Uncle Chuck too since he enjoys woodworking also. Love the adventure you call life!
Thanks Dee Dee! And thanks for showing Uncle Chuck. I’m sure he appreciated it!
The table looks great! And it looks like the shop is well organized and will work out well for you!
Thanks Dad!
