Time to go camping
Last week I had finished the Pipiomaka table build and we started laying out for some raised planter beds. This week, finally, we took a break. It was only for a few days, but we took the campervan out to Oscar Scherer state park near Venice, Florida. It was a nice park tucked back in the old Florida woods.
Sharks teeth
On our way to the campground, we stopped off at Casperson beach in Venice which is known as a good place to find sharks teeth. This would be our third trip to this beach and we were once again successful in finding sharks teeth. After a few hours, we packed up and headed for the campground.
We checked in and headed for our site. Based on the site map, it looked like our site would be waterfront – right on the river. Unfortunately, when we pulled in, we quicky realized that wasn’t the case.

No Canoing
The site was spacious and private, but not waterfront. The river was about 100′ away through dense scrub brush. They did have a canoe launches in the park but all required the canoe to be on wheels as there was quite a bit of ground between the parking lot and the launch. That meant that I wouldn’t be canoing on this trip. Oh well.
Enjoying a much needed break
Regardless, it was good to take a break and sleep in. I actually felt rested for the first time in months. We just generally hung out all day playing boggle, monopoly, and eating way too much junk food. We also got to see quite a few critters around the park – a 6′ gator, a bunch of raccoons, and the highlight which was an adolescent bald eagle and its mother. Very neat.
Getting back on track
We got back in time to prepare to head to Jupiter for our working weekends there. That means not much happened with the house. However, I think we’re about settled enough to where it’s time to get back on track working on this place. It isn’t going to finish itself! That’s all for now. As always, thanks for following along.
This looks like “Glamping” to me. I don’t see any tent or sleeping bags.
Bud
You’re right – no tent or sleeping bags here. We call it campervanning.
Glad you both got a break. it’s nice to relax once in a while!
