Raised planter beds
Last week we got the raised planter beds installed in the south side yard and then got them filled with a load of topsoil. This week Oceana finished transplanting all of the seedlings that were ready and then she planted a whole bunch more seeds. We’re almost out of planting space! I guess we’ll have to make some more planters….

Pine bark
After getting all of the seeds and seedlings planted, Oceana ordered a load of pine bark from Butwell’s. She also had them drop off a roll of the super heavy duty landscape fabric. She laid the fabric down and then spread the pine bark all around the planters to create walkways/working areas between them. She moved 4 yards of pine bark all by herself! And she broke the pitchfork handle and the rake handle in the process. That girl is strong! Or maybe the tools had been left out in the elements for too long and the handles were deteriorated. But we’re going with she’s strong.
Arches (soon)
We picked up some cattle panels from Tractor supply. We’re going to make archways with them between the planter beds. This will allow the vining plants (beans, 8lb watermelons, etc) to grow up and over the arch. We tested one in place and it’s not sturdy enough without some fence posts for support so they didn’t get installed quite yet. I’ll pick up some fence posts this week and get the arches installed.
Remodeling help
My work has been really crazy lately. Instead of working long nights on the house, I’m working long nights on projects for clients. That’s great, but it doesn’t help finish up the house. As such, I’m looking to bring on some help for the house. I found a guy who has recently moved to Sebring that has a construction background. I’m hoping will be able to help me wrap up the odds and ends around the shop before starting on the house. So neighbors, don’t be alarmed. There will be a new face around our property. His name is Frank and he’ll be starting this week. Fingers crossed that he works out.
That’s all for this week. Thanks for following along!
Glad you’ll be getting some help, Jake. So you can ALSO enjoy this beautiful living space you and Oceana are creating here. And I’m with you… Oceana is STRONG! No question! Hugs to both of you.
