More good progress on the house this week. With the old shingle siding removed, Oceana got to work prepping the original wood siding that was hidden behind the shingles. The old paint was flaking off and the paint that was there was dirty. She gave it a good scrub down with some TSP mixed into some water and then went to work scraping off all of the old paint. Once the old paint was off, she gave the old siding a coat of primer. Next up, she puttied all of the old nail holes from the shingles and then caulked in the new trim. Time for paint. She gave the siding two coats of paint using Sherwin Williams duration (the good stuff). This place looks like a new house!
Drywall and rafters
While Oceana was working on the outside, Bob was diligently working on the inside. He finished hanging the drywall and got it taped and mudded. While the mud was setting up, he finished up the ceiling framing. We added new 2×4 rafters below the existing rafters so there would be a larger cavity for insulation. As part of this work, we added gussets to tie the the new rafters to the old rafters and then added hurricane clips on everything.
Insulation
When Bob was done with the framing, he started filling the ceiling cavities with insulation. He’ll have the insulation buttoned up in no time. He said it’s about 30 degrees hotter up at the ceiling than it is at floor level. I’ve been there, I believe him!

Windows and doors
This week I got the rest of the windows for the house on order. We should have plenty of time to prep for their arrival. They’re due in February 11th….next year. Wow. We also ordered new front and back doors. Fortunately these have a lead time of 3-4 weeks. Once we get the back door installed, we can replace all of the siding across the back of the kitchen and dining areas.
That’s all, folks
It was another good week of progress. It’s nice to see the work moving right along. As always, thanks for following along our crazy journey.
I’m sure you are pleased with all the progress. The back bedroom looks a lot different (better) now, compared to when we last visited. Oceana, the house looks great; you have done a lot of work on the siding. I hope Lacey enjoyed being in your pocket, and hope she didn’t leave any surprises. 🙂 Looking forward to see you all soon… Love, Mom
