Last week Bob got the back bedroom ceiling framed and insulated. Over the weekend, Oceana and I got some finish on the knotty pine tongue and groove boards for the back bedroom ceiling. We used some of the floor finish that we already had on hand. The first sealer coat was a more gold color to darken up the pine just a bit. The second coat was a clear coat. The boards have a nice satin look to them and should look great on the ceiling. Also, once I get the floor sanded and refinished, it should match nicely.

Painting outside
Outside, Oceana painted the window trim blue where she painted the siding previously. All we need are some corner boards and some frieze molding (the trim just under the overhang of the roof) and those sides of the house will be squared away. It’s starting to look nice.
Drywall work
Since Bob was taking a long weekend for Memorial Day, I opted to help him out with the drywall work in the back bedroom to keep things moving along….my folks will be arriving next weekend and will be staying in this room. First off, I cleaned the entire room and vacuumed up all of the dust. Next up, I pulled a heavy coat of mud on the old walls which were in pretty rough shape. Once the mud dried, I got out my drywall sander and went over the entire room. Everything looked real good except a few spots that I was able to skim coat. Nearly ready for primer.
Tongue and groove ceiling
On Tuesday, Bob got started on the tongue and groove ceiling installation. It went slowly at first but then he made up time on Wednesday and he was nearly finished on Thursday at the end of the day. While he was working on the ceiling, I got the three ceiling beams glued up. I’m not sure they’re going to be ready before my folks get here though. One of the evenings this week, I milled up more door and window casing with my molding machine. Once I had the molding in hand, I built the window trim assemblies out in the shop and then installed them on the two windows in the bedroom. It’s starting to look like a room again!

Oceana’s garden
Oceana’s garden is doing great. Also, she was able to eat her first garden fresh salad from all of the stuff that she’s grown. This is pretty neat because since we’ve lived in Florida, she’s not been able to get lettuce to grow. Now she’s got lettuce growing in the tower garden as well as in the garden in the side yard. I was able to finish and deliver the big teak deck that I was working on. It turned out real nice. I’ll be glad to get the carport area cleared back out.
I edited the post to add photos of the ceiling. As always, thanks for following along!
