This week I was able to get the vanity rebuilt for the back bathroom. It fits the space so much better than it did previously. After finishing the build, I sprayed on a coat of sealer and then a couple of coats of lacquer. After letting the finish cure overnight, I got it installed in the bathroom.

Baseboard
The next big project was the baseboard. I had milled the baseboard a week or so ago and Oceana had pre-painted it. I got the pieces all cut to size and fitted around the room. Teak hung out while I was using the nailer. I think it’s good to get him used to all of the loud noises while he’s young so he won’t spook as much when he’s older. With the baseboard installed, Oceana got right on to the caulking and filling the nail holes. The next day she did the final coat of paint on the walls and on the baseboard. The room’s looking great!
Electrical
With the painting done, I added the remaining outlet that hadn’t been installed yet and put coverplates on everything. It makes it look finished. In the bathroom, I laid out and installed the vanity light. I had previously ran the wire in the wall but left it behind the drywall until I was ready to install the light fixture. Once we determined the vanity size, I then laid out the location of the light to center on the vanity. Once laid out, I cut through the drywall to access the wire and installed a box for mounting the light to. I then finished the wiring for the switches and outlets in the bathroom.
Finishing touches
Once we had light in the bathroom, Oceana brought in the accessories (towel holders and such). She laid them out around the bathroom and I got them installed. I also installed a mirror over the vanity. With the accessories installed, I started working on the pocket door. I had re-used the previous bathroom door for the pocket door. However, pocket doors use different style door handles than swinging doors. That means I need to fill in the holes from the original door hardware. I used some white epoxy and cut a plug from teak and filled it in. Once I get it faired in and sanded, then I’ll cut in the other hardware.

Almost there
The bedroom is nearly complete except for a few little punch list items. The bathroom lacks the baseboard and vanity top. I’ve got a corian sink on order and the baseboard is ready for installation so maybe we can get it wrapped up soon.
The puppy
Oceana has been working with Teak a lot lately. We’ve enlisted the help of her client who is a dog trainer. She did a video training session and just last night did their first in person training session. In between, Oceana’s been practicing the training techniques with Teak a few times a day. I’m optimistic that soon Teak will begin sleeping through the night. Right now, he barks/cries a couple times throughout the night. I took him for his first canoe ride this week. He wasn’t sure what to think. Miss Kay was out so we went over to visit and as we were headed over, Teak jumped overboard. Fortunately, we both found out he’s a good swimmer.
That’s all, folks
That’s all for today. As always, thanks for following along.
Hello Teak!
Looks good!! What’s the next project?
Thanks! One small project then another big one. I’m going to move the hot tub into place on the porch. Before that I’m going to beef up the floor framing and run water lines to it. Then it’s on to the dining room and living room. I’m really looking forward to getting those rooms done.
It looks fantastic. Love the wood floor and ceiling. We just started following your progress. What wood did you use for the ceiling and floor? Did you install the beams yourself?
Speaking from experience, as a former pet owner and as a Jaws movie buff, you may need a bigger boat. Lol!
Welcome Joyce! The flooring was the original pine flooring that I refinished. The ceilings were #2 pine which has an assortment of knots and other minor defects that gives it character. Yes, I did the beams also. The pine you see is just a covering over the structural framing.
The Canoe pic is so cute ahaha
Hi! Glad the back bedroom is finished. Can’t wait to see the new sink too. Having fun on the other side of the pond. Love the pics of Teak too!
