Last week we got the kitchen reframed and the rough wiring completed. This week things slowed down a bit. My business has been slow for the past few weeks which has allowed me time to work on the kitchen remodel. However, this week, I received a large order due in a short timeframe so I’ve been spending most of my days/evenings in the shop. I’ve even enlisted Oceana’s help out in the shop to get this job done on time. Also, I’ve done some vehicle maintenance in the evenings to keep the old ‘burban in good shape and ready to haul more lumber this week.
Insulation, plywood, and boats?!
On the kitchen, we got the sloped ceiling insulated with fiberglass insulation. That went well enough and then we got the panel lift out and started hanging plywood on the ceiling of the kitchen. We’ll hang plywood first and then cover the plywood with the same tongue and groove boards that we used throughout the living and dining rooms. That way the ceilings will be consistent throughout the living areas. As we got the first sheet of plywood hung, Tom started sending info on Tommy’s boat that’s for sale. We had seen the for sale sign on it and asked Tom for any info on it. Tommy and Cindy are selling their house here and are expecting to close towards the end of the month. As part of that, Tommy is looking to sell the boat so he doesn’t have to trailer it back north with him.
The test drive
So, we met Tom over at Tommy’s house and finally got formally introduced to Tommy (of course, just before they move). We looked at the boat and then Tom brought his little diesel tractor over and we splashed the boat. Oceana and I took it for a test drive and did a few laps around the lake. After it cleared out the old gas in the system, it ran great (brand new outboard). We also tested the brand new trolling motor that has the skyhook feature that uses GPS to hold your position on the water no matter what the wind or currents are doing. It’s pretty slick. Long story short, we now have a new old boat in the side yard. I’m looking forward to using it………after I finish the house. I guess we can call it motivation.

Odds and ends
We had a real heavy storm blow through on Saturday. It ripped off some of the metal roof from the front porch and folded it back. It also tried to throw the canoe off of the dock but fortunately it was secured well enough that it only turned sideways. I spilled a cup of scalding hot coffee on my stomach this week. That resulted in first and second degree burns. Not a pleasant experience by any means but I’m healing up well. On a lighter note, Teak learned how to use the bell to get treats. Enjoy the video! That’s all for today. Thanks for following along.
Love following your blog. Teak is adorable.
I can’t wait to see all of your remodel in person. 😀
That Teak is adorable. Interestingly – joyce has trained me with a similar bell which I ring whenever I need help to get out of my chair. Didn’t think about using it to get her to give me a treat! I guess dogs really are smarter than humans.
Hope you get some time to use your boat To many treats are going to make her fat she is cute
Thanks Grandma!
Your kitchen looks great so far. In the few short weeks since we left Florida it has been transformed! What a difference having a blank slate to start with… Too bad about the burns on your stomach; hope they heal quickly! I guess I’m not surprised that you guys bought the boat. It was probably too good to turn down. Can’t wait to take it for a spin around the lake! Love, Mom
