This week we made more progress on the kitchen remodel. Last week we got the tongue and groove cypress ceiling installed. After it was installed, Oceana handled the prep work. She mixed bondo and filled in all of the many knot holes and large cracks. Once the bondo had set up, she sanded the ceiling smooth. After sanding the grooves, we covered all the important stuff in the kitchen with plastic.
Primer
After the protection was up, we got out the paint sprayer and gave a nice healthy coat of primer to the new ceiling. As the ceiling is now white with the primer, it’s much easier to see defects that need to be addressed. It’s easy to miss nail holes in the raw wood, but we opt to wait until it is primed since they really stand out then. Oceana went through and puttied any exposed nail holes and caulked the joints of the boards.

Paint
After the caulk set up for a day or two, we got the sprayer back out and sprayed on a real heavy coat of paint. I was intending to do two coats, but I sprayed a touch heavier than I wanted, so I called one coat good. After the paint was dry enough, we pulled all the plastic down. We could now stand back and admire the new white ceiling.

Electrical
My folks are snowbirding with us again this year. And with that, my Dad offered to help out with the electrical. He went through and figured out where all of the wires I pulled went to (it has been long enough that I don’t remember anymore). After figuring that out, he got the outlets installed, the switches installed, and the recessed cans installed in the ceiling. We now have light in the kitchen for the first time in nearly a year! It’s the little things….

That’s all, folks
That’s all for today, folks. Next week we’ll be looking to start the pine flooring through the kitchen. Exciting!
Very nice I was wondering if you would paint it your dad came at the right time to get the electric done
They did get here at the right time!
Always good to have Dad and Mom around once in a while. 😂 Looks good!!
Indeed it is! Thanks!
